The importance of your positive thoughts
I have just read an article here which really brings home why it’s so important not to bombard yourself with bad thoughts (like so many of us do) I know I used to think that if I believed I was going to be disappointed by things then I could only be pleasantly surprised and the actual disappointment wouldn’t hurt in case it did happen. This seems rather silly now.
Anyway this article puts it like this:
Your brain notices the things it needs to notice and filters out the rest in order to not overload itself. For example even if you drive a lot you may not remember what types of cars you see around. But you probably will notice every car that is the same as yours or the type you are thinking of buying.
Another example is if someone talks about a widget you’ve never heard of and then the next day you see references to it popping up everywhere.
For this reason if you are always telling yourself you will fail your mind will notice lots of examples of past and present failures, ignoring your successes. In this way I guess it becomes your reality. On the other hand if you were to believe you succeed at things in life this will equally become your reality.
I think this also explains why self help things like keeping a gratitude journal and displaying your successes to remind yourself of them can really turn your life around dramatically.
