Web Hosting Choice

When you are shopping around for web hosting the amount of choice is absolutely staggering (almost as hard as trying to choose a laptop!). There are thousands of web hosting companies, all with different features, pricing, capabilities, platforms and the list goes on.

As with anything that has a lot of confusing choices it’s best to look at web sites which try to make sense of it all by listing them ranked by certain criteria (eg pricing, platform, data allowance). This makes the choice much faster and a little bit easier.

Web Hosting Choice is one such place, their front page shows their top 10 web hosts rated based on cost, reliability, uptime and tech support. You can either choose from this top 10 list or go a little deeper into the site and choose their directory links which get more specific and you can choose from a much wider range of web hosts organized along more criteria such as Linux or Windows based hosting.

There are also FAQs and links to help explain what some of the terms mean and what they mean for your web site as well as a list of scam to watch out for when making your choice.

This week’s update

This week I am going to get some rest, I’ve been running around for weeks now and it has taken it’s toll and I’m a bit run down. I was sick with a fever yesterday, I was awake for about 8 hours in total, asleep the rest. (and yes I am very grateful that I am able to get that much sleep). Brian is now out of hospital and is getting better every day. My lettuces are growing, it’s been good weather for lettuce growing, sunny, cool with an occasional downpour or two. Now I’m looking for more templates to buy, this can sometimes be just as time consuming as making them myself unfortunately!

Update

Brian had his operation on Wednesday and it all went well thank goodness. He was in the ICU for 2 days and then moved to his own room. He’s recovering well, they even have him up and walking now. He had a bit of lung collapse from the operation but I think that will get better by itself. He said his heart is working much better then before, he can really feel the difference.

More lunch links

It amazes me how much effort people put into their cooking and packing lunches. In fact I’m quiet jealous of this ability as mealplanning is really not my strong point. However I think it’s so important to pack lunches for kids that offer variety. This livejournal group on this page have a whole bunch of very inspirational lunch box photos and ideas which look fantastic. How good does this look …mmmmm.

This week

This week we are busy getting ready for Kasey’s birthday as well as keeping up with our visits to Brian. I’m very fortunate, receiving lots of advertising requests on my other blog which also keeps me busy. The only trouble is not having enough time to keep up with the non-sponsored posts and creating graphics. I will be making that top priority this week. Kasey’ school also needs 25 cupcakes tomorrow as well as vegetable sticks to include with her lunch as part of their weekly healthy eating challenge (proudly sponsored by weet-bix… I think in school advertising is just plain wrong but as far as I know I seem to be the only one at school who feels this way). So anyway after this post and another I’m off to visit Brian and see how his operation went. I’m a bit nervous about seeing him with all those tubes and things.

Annoying phone calls?

Persistent, unwanted phone calls from telemarketers can be very annoying. They interrupt at the worst of times and sometimes call back on a daily basis despite knowing you are not interested. Reverse Phone Lookups are an option but they do cost a fee. If you are in the US the first step to take to try and stop these phone calls is to register your phone number on the no call list which is provided by the government. Click here to find out more on how to place yourself on the No Call list, it’s free of charge and calls should stop within 30 days.

Wet phone

On top of worrying about family members I also managed to drop my mobile phone into a bucket of water yesterday. Surprisingly the phone is still working. I was sure it was dead when I heard it beeping during the night with its light flashing on and off. It managed to give out the alarm music when it was time to wake me up and then it gave up the ghost and turned itself off. I thought I’d try to charge it in the morning and when I did lo and behold it came back to life and has worked fine ever since. So fingers crossed it stays working.
